comments, wikis, and housing co-ops
Received email:
I stumbled upon your comment originally about wikis and couldn't help but be more interested in your mention of forming a housing co-op. Lo and behold, you are in CHICAGO, same city as myself.

I happen to live in a newly formed housing co-op (Logan Square Cooperative). Wishing you all the best of luck in your efforts and if there's any way we can support you in your goals, to please let us know.
My answer:
Comments in blogs are a wonderful thing, aren't they? I'm guessing I didn't meet you at the Logan Square Cooperative Open House last month. I was there and had a great time! Your neighbors and other members and friends were really helpful in answering many of my questions about experiences with the process.

Our group started out being called New Edge Co-op because many of the people that got our process started were being evicted from the Edgewood when it was sold for a condo conversion. We're now incorporated have are calling ourselve the Hub Housing Cooperative. We'll see if that name sticks. We all know each other through our connection with Critical Mass and the bicycle community.

We're feeling very close to making this whole deal happen. We actually made an offer that was rejected on a building last month. We're deciding what to do next in terms of that building plus other buildings that we're considering. We're looking at 8-12 units, same as Logan Square or a bit larger.

When we get to a point of having our documents ready I'll take you up on your offer for help. Thanks much! By the way, does Logan Square Cooperative have a website? I haven't been able to find it.
